24 Nov 2015 — Collagen content in the vastus lateralis and the soleus muscle following a 90-day bed rest period with or without resistance exercises
A-fit partner University of Copenhagen, in collaboration with Umeå University and Karolinska Institutet, completes an investigation that aids in understanding collagen dynamics during long term bed rest, with or without isoinertial resistance exercise countermeasures (YoYo Technology). 7-9 Oct 2015 — A-fit in the 7th MuscleTech Network Workshop, Barcelona, Spain
A-fit partners University of Barcelona and Karolinska Institutet participated in the 7th MuscleTech Network Workshop. The work presented investigated the effects of 90 days of bed rest with and without exercise countermeasures (i.e., YoYo flywheel resistance exercise) on activity and gene expression of enzymes controlling skeletal muscle metabolism. This study will help reaching the goals of the A-fit project. Read more »
27 June 2015 – A-fit in the ECSS Annual Congress 2015, Malmö, Sweden
A-fit partners University of Verona and University of Barcelona participated in the 20th ECSS annual congress. The work presented by University of Verona investigated the effects of high intensity aerobic and resistance (YoYo flywheel) exercise training, on intermuscular adipose tissue. The study presented by University of Barcelona analyzed the glucose metabolism during 90 days of bed rest with and without exercise countermeasures (i.e., YoYo flywheel resistance exercise). Both studies will help reaching the goals of the A-fit project. Read more »
26 June 2015 — A-fit work package directed by Dr. Peter Sojka at Östersund Rehabcenter has translated into an excellent master thesis analyzing the effects of flywheel resistance exercise on the non-affected leg in chronic stroke patients
Catarina Nissemark, from A-fit partner Östersund Rehabcenter, has defended a master work entitled "Can training of non-affected leg with eccentric overload technique improve muscle function, balance, walking ability and perceived participation in chronic stroke subjects?" 30 May 2015 – Effects of eight weeks of aerobic interval training and of isoinertial resistance training on risk factors of cardiometabolic diseases and exercise capacity in healthy elderly subjects
A-fit partner University of Verona completes an investigation that aids in understanding cardiovascular fitness, muscle mass and strength, and risk factors of metabolic syndrome adaptations to high intensity interval training and isoinertial resistance training (YoYo Technology) in healthy older adults. 15 May 2015 – A-fit work package “Cardiovascular and skeletal muscle responses to chronic concurrent exercise using flywheel technology in old men”, with responsible institution University of Verona, has translated into an excellent doctoral thesis defended by Paolo Bruseghini.

A-fit partner University of Barcelona, in collaboration with the Karolinska Institutet, participated in the 15th FEMEDE annual congress. The work presented by Cussó's group investigated the metabolic profile of skeletal muscle after 90 days of bed rest with or without concurrent flywheel resistance exercise. A-fit partners Östersund Rehabcenter and Karolinska Institutet complete an investigation showing flywheel resistance exercise improves muscle function, balance, gait and functional performance in men and women suffering from chronic stroke. 16 May 2014 — Per Stål, from A-fit partner Umeå University, gives a lecture about how to maintain muscle health in space
The lecture explained the changes in fiber morphology, myosin heavy chain composition and micro-vascularization that take place during long-term bed rest (space flight analogue), and how resistance exercise employing flywheel technology can modify that response. Read more »
2-5 July 2014 — A-fit in the ECSS annual congress 2014, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
A-fit partners University of Verona and University of Barcelona participated in the 19th ECSS annual congress. The work presented by University of Barcelona investigated skeletal muscle fast myosin after eccentric-concentric maximal actions, while the poster presented by University of Verona described the speeding of VO2 kinetic during HIT in elderly subjects.
